What Is Mucoid Plaque?
If you are experiencing symptoms of chronic ill health, even if they are vague, you may need to detoxify your body. In particular, a colon cleanse can help your body to expel old, impacted fecal matter along with mucoid plaque. The presence of mucoid plaque in the colon is supported by a great deal of anecdotal evidence, however it is not supported by scientific research and has strong criticism amongst the medical profession. The term was coined by a naturopathic doctor, Richard Anderson. He found that a sticky, rope-like substance can form in the gastrointestinal tract as a result of toxins in the diet and a lack of fiber and water.
The body produces excess mucous as protection against these toxins. The purpose of mucous in the large intestine is to aid in the motility of the bowel. The mucous provides a covering for undigested food helping it to move more easily through the bowel before it is finally expelled from the body as feces. When it builds up it is called mucoid plaque.
Unfortunately, the mucoid plaque itself presents a significant health risk because it interferes with digestion and the body’s ability to absorb nutrients. It can also encourage parasitic infestation. Chronic fatigue, allergies, inflammatory diseases, skin outbreaks and a range of serious illnesses can be traced back to colon ill health and the presence of mucoid plaque. Simple fatigue and low energy or the feeling of being overwhelmed may well be the result of a toxic system and can be fixed by detoxifying the body.
Even a small amount of mucoid plaque can lower immunity. Normally, the human body can rid itself of this problem, however high stress and poor diet lead to an accumulation of mucoid plaque in the intestines. While a healthy colon weighs on average about four pounds, an unhealthy colon can easily accumulate forty pounds of mucoid plaque. A successful colon cleanse often leads to people being shocked at the appearance of the mucoid plaque that comes away. It is molded by the shape and texture of the intestinal wall including folds, creases, twists, overlaps and striations.
Our modern Western lifestyle is largely unhealthy being high in sugar, fats and chemical additives. It is also low in nutrition and fiber. As well as contending with this diet our bodies are also breathing polluted air, often drinking water that is far from pure, and wearing clothing full of chemicals and even pesticides. We are being bombarded by toxins and our bodies cannot cope. One of the consequences of this is mucoid plaque which holds toxins in the intestines and does not allow them to be expelled.
Bacteria, parasites and other pathogens hide beneath the plaque which slowly emits toxins into the bloodstream. It also obstructs lymph and mucous drainage. Over time this weakens the immune system and puts the liver under pressure as it tries to deal with the high level of bowel toxins. If your intestines are clogged with mucoid plaque and impacted feces, your whole body will be affected. It will poison your blood, lymphatic system, cells and organs causing your body to function inefficiently and leading you to feel tired and unwell. It is therefore essential to detoxify the bowel.
Colon cleansing is the most effective way to detoxify the body, starting with the colon. By using specific herbs as a part of a detox program, you will be able to finally rid the body of impacted fecal matter as well as mucoid plaque. Along with herbal remedies, a colon cleanse usually includes an initial fast and then light healthy diet. It is often recommended that you maintain your detox program for at least a week to ensure a complete cleanse, however if you are very toxic you may need to extend your colon cleanse for as long as necessary.
In the last week of your detox, don’t be surprised if you expel as much as thirty five to forty five feet of plaque. It can appear in different guises depending on the environment of your intestines. It can smell foul and be a range of colors including yellow or gray, black or green-black, or light brown. The mucoid plaque can also come in different textures including solid and thick, slimy and rubbery, hard or soft. It can be very disconcerting to eliminate this often revolting substance but don’t be concerned. If you do a Google image search on ‘mucoid plaque’ before you start your colon cleanse you will get a good idea of what you can expect.
The best proof that colon cleansing works is how you will actually feel when you have detoxified your body. Generally, people report improved energy levels, better health, and a great ability to handle stress after a complete detox. More specifically, allergies, arthritis and other conditions often disappear as a result.
Whether or not you have overt signs of ill health, you should seriously consider doing an intensive colon cleanse. Modern lifestyles contribute to a toxic colon and a diminished sense of well being. We all need to help our bodies eliminate toxic build up and give ourselves the best chance of a healthy life.
