Part I: Why Do We Have Preservatives?

There are numerous toxins and preservatives within out food that can come from many sources. If your food is not grown organically, you can be sure the food contains a preservative or toxin. A toxin or food preservative will be placed there for three main reasons.

The first reason is to increase the shelf life of many items that are sold pre-packaged. The second reason is to boost the flavour of the food. Of course, the third reason preservatives and toxins are placed within food is to grow it larger than it normally would.

The first reason to add a preservative or toxin to food is to increase its shelf life. A lot of the pre-packaged food being consumed is produced elsewhere and transported by trucks to other areas. In some instances, the food is even produced or grown in another country before it arrives in your supermarket. This is done because it is often cheaper to the company or manufacturers to produce it cheaply in one place and then sell it for a more expensive price elsewhere.

In order to survive the long journey, the food we eat will be produced or grown with preservatives or toxins to keep it from spoiling. This is especially true when the food is mass produced quickly and shipped quickly to meet the public’s demand.

The second type of preservative the food will contain to improve its taste. It has always been the public’s view that food that is healthy is bland and not tasty. Therefore, manufacturers will add preservatives to food to give it “taste” or flavour. Therefore, for foods that are supposed to taste sweet, they will usually be sweeter than normal, because extra sweeteners are used. The same is true for salty foods. However, this is not true and preservatives do not really improve the flavour, but instead give a false flavour when added.
